In conjunction with the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section, Quinnipiac University School of Law will host the 10th annual Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Competition this fall, October 29-31, 2010.  In this competition, teams of law students try a criminal case before judges and practitioners.  Eight teams are invited to participate.  Each team is guaranteed the opportunity to try the case twice, once as the prosecution and once as the defense.

The competition begins on Friday evening with a reception and coaches meeting hosted at Quinnipiac University School of Law.  Teams are paired by lot for the first round of competition, which begins on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.  The second trial begins at 1:30 p.m.  Lunch will be provided between the two trials.  These preliminary rounds will be held at the Federal District Court in New Haven.  After the completion of the second trial, a banquet will be held at Bentara, a restaurant in downtown New Haven, where we will announce which four teams will advance to the semi-final round.

Four teams will participate in two trials for the semi-final round, which will begin on Sunday at 9 a.m.  The winners of the semi-final round will meet in the final round that will begin at 2:30 p.m.  The semi-final and final rounds will be held at Quinnipiac University School of Law.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and a reception and awards ceremony will be held immediately following the final round.

The winner of the competition is assured a spot in the spring John Marshall School of Law Criminal Trial Advocacy Competition, also sponsored by the ABA Criminal Justice Section.
